Yellow

Yellow seemed to be the colour of the day today. Yellow daffodils on my windowsill and 30 Bright Ideas books ready to pack - they're very well suited to the weather today with their bright sunburst covers - it's the kind of weather that makes me want to make lots of lovely bright coloured things.

Sunshine and springiness

Yay! All that lovely sunshine today must surely mean that spring is indeed here at long last?!
My weekend consisted of making birthday cakes, enjoying the spring sunshine by going to the seaside, eating fish and chips and doing some work. Nothing exciting but a nice weekend all the same.
I have a busy week ahead making 30 Bright Ideas for L'Oreal HQ, sending out orders, designing new things and working on my commission for Snowhome (more to come on this very soon.) I need the sunshine to spur me on as I feel a bit tired and it's only Monday.
A couple of weeks ago I did a blog interview for the lovely Clare and Anthony at Plaisir - a fine little shop in Biggar, Scotland. They posted it at the weekend and here it is. Not only do they have a great shop but like me they love their cake too. 'Cake of the week' part of their website is obviously a favourite of mine!

Seeing colours

At the moment I'm working on new designs and thinking a lot about new colours for these. When I'm doing new designs I start seeing colours and colour combinations everywhere when I'm not even looking or thinking about work; folding the washing, Martha's wax crayon pot.......
Maybe it's because it's been a sunny day but I'm tending towards thinking about some bold and bright palettes. I have salmon pink, lime and olive green and purple going around in my head. Even when I put my olive green converse on with my purple stripy socks - massive fashion error but strangely a lovely colour combination!
I'm busying away on new stuff and also have a great commission to start working on which I'm excited about - more to come on all this soon.

Mothers Day cards & shop updates

I've just been doing some long-overdue updates to my shop as well as adding new mothers day cards to both my Big Cartel and Not On The High Street shops. I know it's a long way off just yet (3rd April) but don't forget to treat all those very special hard-working mothers to a lovingly hand screen printed card to show your appreciation (and possibly breakfast in bed and some flowers - hint hint!!)

A bit of sunshine

There was more than a hint of spring in the air lighting up even the darkest spaces on Sunday. I wish it would hang around a little longer but it's back to the grey and gloom today. With any luck the start of a new month tomorrow will bring a bit of that sunshine back.
I love the bright cadmium yellow of these buckets lit up by the sun against the normal dust and dirt of the farm.

Sunday afternoon rummaging!

Our Sunday afternoon was spent wandering around a flea market and then having a pot of tea and big slice of cake at a farm shop tea room. If it hadn't been so bitterly cold it would have been the perfect afternoon. I always seem to be particularly drawn to tins at flea markets and car boots sales for some reason. I have many that I've collected over the years and they always come in really useful as well as being interesting to look at. I didn't buy any this time but I love to see little collections like this. There's something aesthetically pleasing for me about seeing a group of similar objects stacked or arranged together.
